Dippy the
Diplodocus carnegii
cast at the
Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum
as part of Dippy on Tour in 2019. The original fossil skeleton was found in
Wyoming
in 1899, and it was owned by
Andrew Carnegie
who financed its excavation, and made it a feature of his
Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh
. The replica was cast in plaster and installed in the
Natural History Museum, London
in 1905, one of ten casts in museums worldwide.
