Description Lamma evening4.jpg |
Looking west from Pak Kok Tsuen (village) on Lamma Island , just south of Hong Kong island , as the sun goes down. A tug pulling a barge or lighter moves away from the moored cargo ship with cranes. This is the view from the roof of a house on a slight rise between the valley and the sea (Lamma Channel). These photos were taken about a year after Mt Pinatubo erupted in the Phillipines. It is claimed that Turner's classic sunsets were caused by dust from eruptions by Mount Tambora and other volcanoes; it's certainly true that Hong Kong had these amazing Turneresque sunsets around the period corresponding to Mt Pinatubo's activity. Taken 1992/3 on Fuji film. Image 4 of 4. |
