Summary
Description Rana Temporaria - Larva Final Stage.jpg |
English:
This common frog
Rana temporaria
larva is almost completely metamorphosed. The shape of the jaw is a bit odd still, as it has changed overnight from the algae-scraping shape to the big frog's mouth. Notice the big eyes and strong legs at this stage, and the remnants of the gill covering that also covered the front legs. Wageningen, The Netherlands
Hopefully this pic can be changed soon by one without the spots on the window. I couldn't find other pics on commons to illustrate the awkward mouth shape in this crucial stage of development, probably because it is a very short and dramatic phase in development. Wageningen, The Netherlands |
