Description |
English:
The German battleships 'Markgraf' and 'Bayern' in the Firth of Forth, November 1918
original art: drawing. Inscribed 'Markgraf and Bayern' and signed below by the artist, lower left. The German battleship 'Bayern' (1915) is on the left and the battleship 'Markgraf' (1913) on the right. A German 'Könisberg'-class light cruiser (1915-16) is on the extreme left. The gap between the funnels of the 'Markgraf' is a little too wide and the fore-funnel should be thicker than the after funnel. This image shows the ships anchored in the Forth between 22 and 25 November 1918, as part of the surrendered German High Seas Fleet, before they moved to Scapa Flow. A naval trawler is in the centre, with naval steam launches also shown. [BTodd/PvdM 5/13] |
