The last Great Khüree Cham- dance festival in Mongolia before organised boeddhism was wiped out was organised in 1937 near what is now Ulaanbaatar. The central figure in the photo is the deity of the Old White Man, the most comic character in the cham. It would take until 2007 before another Great Khüree Cham- dance could be organised.
