Notes:

Soviet and early Chinese estimates are uncertain due to difficulties with estimating values in planned economies. Therefore SIPRI in 1986 chose to stop publishing estimates for Soviet and China. Since there is no single source for the whole time period, SIPRI and ACDA data have been combined. ACDA data was used for Soviet 1986-90 and China 1976-89. In order for the ACDA data to match the SIPRI methodology the values have been adjusted by a factor made up of the average difference between SIPRI and ACDA estimates during the nearest years where both estimates are available. In other words, instead of a linear interpolation over the missing SIPRI data, ACDA change rates were used for Soviet 1986-90 and China 1976-89.
