Summary
Description W74 and W82 AFAP.jpg |
English:
W74 and W82 155mm nuclear artillery shells (Artillery Fired Atomic Projectiles - AFAPs) on display at the Nuclear Weapons Instructional Museum, Kirtland Air Force Base.
The W74 program was cancelled in 1973 due to cost and lack of improved capability over the existing W48 AFAP. The program did not produce any production warheads. The W82 project was controversial due to the fact it was a enhanced radiation (neutron) weapon and was cancelled in 1982. A non-ER version was started in 1986 and cancelled at the end of the Cold War. |
