History

The company was founded by J. R. D. Tata to create a complete consortium that would take on projects, Division of Tata Sons for engineering procurement and construction projects.[3]

Founded in 1979, the company carries out industrial and urban infrastructure projects.[4][5][6][7][8]

Space and nuclear

For the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL), Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), it constructs complicated structures and assists on-site integration services.[10] A $321 million order from the Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL) was given to the corporation, marking its third contract in the nuclear power industry.[11] Built Trisonic Wind Tunnel at the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) in Thiruvanantapuram[12][13]

Power sector

It supports gas-based combined-cycle power plants and balance of plants on an EPC basis for coal-based power plants that are operating at supercritical and subcritical temperatures.[14][15] Tata Projects built 400 KV double circuit transmission line This transmission line shall result in expansion of high voltage transmission infrastructure in the northern parts of Bangladesh.[16] Also, executes transmission line project of 500kV in Thailand[17]

Transportation

Its focus areas are airports, niche road projects including expressways and railway infrastructure including mass rapid transit systems and automobile sector.[18]

The company carries out transport and urban development projects for Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).[19][18] The new terminal at Prayagraj Airport was constructed in a record time of 11 months.[20] Tata Projects building the Dedicated Freight Corridor Project, focusing on both the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor and Western Dedicated Freight Corridor project.[21][22] The company is also undertaking various underground and elevated metro projects in cities such as Lucknow, Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, Ahmedabad, and Chennai.[23] [24][25][26][27][28]The Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, a 21.8 km road bridge, is set to become India's longest sea bridge, connecting Mumbai with Navi Mumbai. Additionally, Tata Projects is working on the Noida International Airport, which is planned to be the largest airport in India and Asia, focusing on the development of the passenger terminal, runway, and other airport infrastructure.[29]

Urban infrastructure

In 1990, Tata Projects constructed an international-class hotel in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, highlighting its international expertise in the hospitality sector. [30]Within India, the Bharat Net Project in Chhattisgarh involves laying an extensive optical fibre network to enhance digital connectivity across the region.[31]

The construction of the new Ginger hotel in Santacruz, Mumbai, was notable for its all-women engineering team.[32] The National Maritime Heritage Complex is another key project, designed to celebrate India's rich maritime history with a museum, artificial water body, jetty, and a replica of the ancient Lothal town.[33] The redevelopment of the BDD Chawls in Mumbai focuses on urban renewal and providing improved living conditions.

Additionally, the Shree Mandira Parikrama Prakalpa in Puri aims to enhance the pilgrimage experience with seamless connectivity and modern amenities.[34] A landmark project, Tata Projects built New Parliament House, New Delhi, lotus, peacock, and banyan tree are three national emblems that are incorporated into the interior design.[35][36][37][38]

Oil and gas

In 2020, The company received orders of Rs 6,000 crore in oil and gas refinery industry from two state-run businesses.[39] Tata Project built the ONGC Bokaro project in Jharkhand.[40] The U-Field project by ONGC Kakinada in the deepwater Krishna-Godavari basin has reached mechanical completion, boosting offshore energy production.[41]

Metals and minerals

Tata Projects operates iron and steel in different countries and it is capable of building beneficiation plants, sinter plants, pellet plants, blast furnaces, casters and rolling mills on an EPC basis.[42][43][44][45] Built state-of-the-art Rourkela Steel Plant in Odisha[46]

Water

In 2017, Tata Projects and Watergen of Israel began initiatives that aim to extract drinking water from the atmosphere.[47] In Connaught Place in New Delhi, Watergen installed a GEN-350G pilot where 2,000 people received drinking water from the air each day.[48] The Dravyavati River Rejuvenation Project involved revitalizing the Dravyavati River by recharging it with treated sewage water. The project included landscaping the slopes on both banks and creating parks and social spaces.[49]
