The Clashes began on 7 August 1958,[6] after Major Tufail Mohammad ordered three quick response teams to launch an attack on the Indian troops who infiltrated and occupied Lakhsmipur in 1957.[7]

The clash

On 7 August 1958, Major Tufail Mohammad ordered to close in on the Indian soldiers from all three sides. Soldiers started to crawl their way towards the Indian troops in an attempt to make them withdraw. Though they were able to reach close to the Indian troops, as the fight started, the soldiers had serious wounds and casualties, as they were vulnerable to the Indian firing.[8]

Major Tufail Mohammad was wounded after he threw a grenade on the Indian post killing Indian soldiers, later on, Wounded Tufail engaged in a close quarters battle with Indian troops, eventually eliminating them by throwing grenades and engaging a firefight with Indian troops and Machine gunners and destroying Indian outposts and making Indian troops retreat.[9][10] He later succumbed to his wounds, and before he died, he said his last words to his Junior officer: "I have completed my duty, the enemy is on the run."[11][12]
