Indian fighter aircraft crash


On 8 May 2023, a MiG-21 crashed in the Indian state of Rajasthan, in Hanumangarh.[1] A mechanical issue caused the Indian Air Force (IAF) fighter aircraft to crash after taking off from the Suratgarh airbase during regular exercise, killing three people and injuring three more.[2]

Incident

The MiG-21 jet crashed into a house in Hanumangarh, Rajasthan, as a result of a technical issue after taking off from the Suratgarh airbase during a normal exercise. The pilot safely exited the plane after making a timely ejection, according to reports. The pilot, who had suffered minor wounds, was transported to safety in a helicopter.[3][4]

Response

Before the police and fire department arrived, the villagers attempted to extinguish the flames using water and sand. According to police, a rescue effort had been started near the crash site of the aircraft.[5]

Investigation

An inquiry has been initiated to ascertain the cause of the accident. The IAF said a probe has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the crash.[3][6]
