Akhvakhsky District (Russian: Ахвахский райо́н; Avar: Гӏахьвахъ мухъ) is an administrative[1] and municipal[6] district (raion), one of the forty-one in the Republic of Dagestan, Russia. It is located in the west of the republic. The area of the district is 291.1 square kilometers (112.4 sq mi).[2] Its administrative center is the rural locality (a selo) of Karata.[1] As of the 2010 Census, the total population of the district was 22,014, with the population of Karata accounting for 18.9% of that number.[3]
