Early life and education

Bilal Abdul Hai Hasani Nadwi was born on October 3, 1969, in Takia Kalan, Raebareli.[2][3][4] His father, Muhammad al-Hasani,[5] was an Islamic scholar and the founder and editor-in-chief of the Arabic magazine Al Baas Al Islami.[6][7] His grandfather, Syed Abdul Ali Hasani, was the 6th chancellor of Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulama[8] and the elder brother of Abul Hasan Ali Nadwi.[9] His great-grandfather, Syed Abdul Hayy Hasani,[5] was the author of the notable biographical book Nuzhat al-Khawātir.[10] His lineage reaches Hasan Al Musanna bin Hasan ibn Ali[11] through Syed Ahmad Barelvi.[12][13]

After the demise of his father at the age of ten, he was brought up by his elder brother, Abdullah Hasani Nadwi.[14][15][16] He received his primary education in his native land, under the supervision of Abul Hasan Ali Hasani Nadwi. After that, he enrolled in Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulama for higher education and completed the Aalimiyyah course in 1988 and the Fazīlah course in 1990 there.[2][3][4]

He received permission (Ijazah) in Hadith from Abul Hasan Ali Hasani Nadwi, Abdur Rashīd Nomani, Abd al-Fattah Abu Ghudda, Abdullah ibn Abdul Aziz al-Aqīl, Yunus Jaunpuri, Ahmad Hasan Tonki, and Shaikh Ahmad Shafi.[2]

He is an authorised disciple of Muhammad Rabey Hasani Nadwi and Sayed Nafees al-Hussaini in Tariqah.[2]

Career

After graduating from education, Nadwi was appointed as a Hadith teacher in Madrasa Ziyaul Uloom in Raebareli, where he continued to provide teaching services,[17][2][14][18] and now he is teaching the subject of Islamic thought in Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulama.[2]

After the death of his brother Abdullah Hasani Nadwi in 2013, he was elected as the General Secretary of the All India Payam-e-Insaniyat Forum, towards which he is serving humanity all over the country.[2][5]

On May 11, 2021, after the demise of Hamza Hasani Nadwi, he was elected the vice principal of Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulama.[2] He succeeded Rabey Hasani Nadwi as the chancellor of Nadwatul Ulama on April 14, 2023,[19][20] and as a member of the executive council of Darul Uloom Deoband on August 29, 2023.[21][22][23]
