2nd episode of the 8th season of RuPaul's Drag Race


"Bitch Perfect" is the second episode of the eighth season of RuPaul's Drag Race.[1] The episode's main challenge is a Rusical (musical threatre) inspired by Pitch Perfect. Ester Dean and Lucian Piane are guest judges, and Jamal Sims is the guest choreographer.

For the mini-challenge, contestants participate in a Latin-style dance circle to music by AB Soto, wearing outfits from Out of the Closet. Chi Chi DeVayne and Cynthia Lee Fontaine are declared the winners.[2]

For the main challenge, contestants are tasked with performing choreography in a Pitch Perfect-inspired sketch called Bitch Perfect. Jamal Sims is the guest choreographer.[2]

Ester Dean and Lucian Piane are guest judges. Dax ExclamationPoint and Laila McQueen placed in the bottom two and face off in a lip-sync to "I Will Survive" (1978) by Gloria Gaynor. Both contestants are eliminated.[2]

Production

Sims has appeared on the show several times. He was a guest judge and choreographer on the twelfth season's "Viva Drag Vegas" (2020), as well as the thirteenth season's "Condragulations" and "Social Media: The Unverified Rusical" (2021). Additionally, he was solely guest choreographer on the seventh season's "Glamazonian Airways" (2015), the twelfth season's "Madonna: The Unauthorized Rusical" (2020), and the thirteenth season's "Gettin' Lucky" (2021). On the sixth season (2021) of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars, Sims was a guest judge and choreograper on "Halftime Headliners" and solely a guest choreographer on the finale "This Is Our Country".

Reception

Oliver Sava of The A.V. Club gave the episode a rating of 'A-'.[3] Stephen Daw ranked "Bitch Perfect" eighth in Billboard's 2024 list of the show's Rusicals to date.[4]
