Barnett played for Nelson (-2012), Saintfield (2012), Wellington (2013-2016) and Central Districts. He also played in the Netherlands for VRA Amsterdam in 2015.[2] In 2020 he was a coach for the Tararua Kotahi womans team in the Central Districts Cricket Association.[3][4] From 2021 he was a coach on Nelson (NBS Nelson Nyxons) till 2023.[5][6] Since 2023 he is a coach for Queensland Cricket.
