The municipality lies at an altitude of 593 meters and covers an area of 9.03 km2. It has a population of 306 people (as of 31 December 2015).[citation needed]
In historical records the village was first mentioned in 1286.
In 1910 the village had 441 mainly German inhabitants of Lutheran confession.[5] It was part of the German language island of the Oberzips. At the end of World War II the German population was expelled according to the Beneš decrees.[6]
Most important sights to see are the evangelical neo gothic and Roman Catholic gothic churches and a baroque manor house.
