Danny Röhl (born 28 April 1989) is a German football coach and former player who is manager of EFL Championship club Sheffield Wednesday.

Playing career

Born in Zwickau,[1] Röhl played as a defender for clubs including FSV Zwickau, FC Sachsen Leipzig II and FC Eilenburg in the German lower leagues.[2][3]

Coaching career

Röhl began coaching at RB Leipzig, later working at Southampton,[4] Bayern Munich,[5] and as assistant manager of the German national team.[2][6]

In October 2023, he was appointed manager of English club Sheffield Wednesday, becoming the youngest manager in the English Football League.[7][8][9] He said he was looking forward to the challenge of his first managerial position,[10] while player Josh Windass said he was excited to learn from Röhl.[11]

Röhl's first game was a 1–0 defeat away at Watford.[12][13] His assistant coach Chris Powell urged the club's fans to be patient with Röhl.[14] His first win was a 2–0 victory over Rotherham United in his first home game.[15] Following four wins in seven matches in December 2023, he was nominated for the EFL Championship Manager of the Month.[16]
