Deweni Yuddhaya (The Second War) (Sinhala: දෙවෙනි යුද්ධය) is a 2023 Sri Lankan Sinhalese language drama thriller film directed by V. Sivadasan and co-produced by Keith Ranga, Channa Obeysekera, and Rajiv Sivadasan for Finevision Group.[4] It stars Pubudu Chathuranga and Udari Warnakulasooriya in lead roles along with Sarath Kothalawala, Jayalath Manoratne, Dilhani Ekanayake and Buddhika Jayaratne in supportive roles.[2] Popular television actress Tushini Fernando also made her cinema debut in the film with a supportive role.[5] It is the 1360th film in Sri Lankan cinema.[6]

Production

The film marks tenth film direction by V. Sivadasan, who previously directed the films: Okkoma Rajawaru (1989), Hondin Naththam Narakin (1990), Oba Mata Viswasai (1992), Edath Chandiya Adath Chandiya (1995), Oba Magema Wewa (2001), Dakina Dakina Mal (2010), Daruwane (2012), Doni (2013), and Sinhaya (2016).[4] He also wrote the story where Bernard Jayatunga wrote the screenplay. Co-director of the film is Keerthi Ruwan Lalson and film is co-produced by Keith Ranga, Channa Obeysekera, and Rajiv Sivadasan.[9] Sujith Nishantha made the cinematography and Megha Colombage made editing and color combination. Anura Jayasekara contributed with feature composition, T.N. Balasundaram with sound combination, Diran Wijayasinghe with dialogue recording and Sunil Vijayadeva with product management.[2]

Art Direction was done by Rohan Samaradivakara with the assistance of Prasanna Pradeep Kumar whereas Darshan Chaturanga done visual effects and Sarath Wijesekera is the production executive.[2] Still Photography was handled by Chalana Rodrigo and drone camera operation by Aruna Saman Kumara.[4] Hairdressing and theater costumes done by Kumudini Kalkahewa and Dinesh Jayashantha respectively. Udayan Victor is the music director and lyricists are Prof. Sunil Ariyaratne, Aruna Gunaratne, and Sunil Dharmasri. Meanwhile, Nirosha Virajini, Subuddhi Lakmali, Poorna Sachinta, and Kalpana Kavindi made background vocals. All the songs were recorded by Dayananda Perera. Nilwala Vishwamali handled the choreography in the song visuals.[4]

Release

The media screening of the film was held in April 2023 at the Tharangani cinema hall in National Film Corporation.[10] The film was released on 4 May 2023.[2]
