She has been ranked by the WTA as high as world No. 29 in singles, achieved on 21 August 2023, and No. 244 in doubles, which she attained on 10 August 2020. She is currently the No. 3 Italian female player.
Cocciaretto made her debut for the Italy Fed Cup team in 2018.
On the ITF Junior Circuit, Cocciaretto had a career-high combined ranking of 17, achieved on 5 February 2018. She reached the semifinals of the 2018 Australian Open girls' singles tournament, losing to eventual champion Liang En-shuo.
2020: Grand Slam debut
She qualified for the first Grand Slam tournament main-draw in her career at the 2020 Australian Open.[1]
2022: First Grand Slam win
On her debut, using protected ranking, she recorded her first major win at Wimbledon, upsetting compatriot and 22nd seed Martina Trevisan.
2023: Maiden WTA Tour title & top-10 win, Italian No. 1 & top 30 debut
She reached her first WTA Tour final at the Hobart International which she lost to Lauren Davis.[2] As a result, she reached the top 50 on 16 January 2023 at world No. 48, becoming the Italian female player No. 2 in the WTA rankings.
At the Mérida Open, she reached the quarterfinals defeating Viktorija Golubic and Wang Xinyu. The following week at the Monterrey Open, she reached back to back quarterfinals defeating Marina Bassols Ribera and Tatjana Maria.[3]
At the French Open, she upset tenth seed Petra Kvitová in the first round for her first top-10 win.[4] Next, she defeated qualifier Simona Waltert to reach the third round for the first time at a Grand Slam. As a result, she climbed to No. 41 on 12 June 2023 becoming the Italian No. 1 player. She repeated the feat reaching the third round at Wimbledon, also for the first time at this tournament.
2024: Out of top 50
She lost in the second round of the Australian Open to 27th seed Emma Navarro, and at the Indian Wells Open to another American, Peyton Stearns, in the first round.
