Inderjeet Singh Bhangu (26 January 1926 - 22 December 2023), also known as Imroz, was a Punjabi painter and writer. His live-in partner was Amrita Pritam, award-winning Punjabi writer.[1] He was the illustrator and designer of Punjabi literary magazine Nagmani, which was edited by Amrita Pritam, for 37 years.[2]

Biography

Imroz was born in Chak No. 36 near Lyallpur (now Failslabad, Punjab, Pakistan) on 26 January 1926.[2]

He worked in the Hindi film industry for a little while and designed posters for films like Aan.[3]

In the 1950s, he Amrita Pritam, who was an established Punjabi writer by the time. They became partners and lived together for 40 years.[4]

He died at the age of 97 on 22 December 2023 in Mumbai after having been hospitalised for some time due to age-related complications.[5][6]

Legacy

It is said that Amrita Pritam wrote her famous poem Main Tainu Pher Milange (I will meet you again) for Imroz.[5]
