Indian activist and politician (1948–2022)


Mappilassery Chavara Josephine (3 August 1948 – 10 April 2022) was an Indian activist and politician. She served as the Chairperson of Kerala Women's Commission from 25 May 2017 to 25 June 2021.[1][2][3][4][5][6] She was a central committee member of the CPI(M) and she was the candidate of CPI(M) for the 2006 Kerala Legislative Assembly election from the former Mattancherry constituency.[7][8][9] Josephine died from a heart attack on 10 April 2022, at the age of 73.[10]

Controversy


This lady is alleged to have once simultaneously possessed two Indian Below Poverty Line (BPL) cards in stark and unlawful contrast to her professed concern for the poor, underprivileged and deprived. This was even as she held high level salaried posts with attendant perks for the Government of Kerala and was also possibly in charge of disbursement of large quantums of funds.
