The name of the newspaper has been changed many times throughout history; it was originally founded in 1918 with the name Ishtirokiyun (English: Communist), then was renamed to Qizil bayroq (English: Red Banner) in 1920, Turkiston (English: Turkistan) in 1922, Qizil Oʻzbekiston (English: Red Uzbekistan) in 1924, then to Sovet Oʻzbekistoni (English: Soviet Uzbekistan) in 1964, and then finally to Oʻzbekiston ovozi (English: Voice of Uzbekistan) in 1991.^[4]
