City in Alborz province, Iran


Palangabad (Persian: پلنگآباد), also Romanized as Palangābād; also known as Qelīchābād,[2] is a city in, and the capital of, Palangabad District of Eshtehard County, Alborz province, Iran, and also serves as the administrative center for Palangabad Rural District.[3]

At the 2006 census, its population was 1,026 in 285 families, when it was a village in Palangabad Rural District of Eshtehard District, Karaj County, Tehran province.[4]

In August 2010, Karaj County, Nazarabad County, and Savojbolagh County were separated from Tehran province in the establishment of Alborz province.[5]

In June 2012, Eshtehard District was separated from Karaj County in the establishment of Eshtehard County, which was divided into two districts of two rural districts each, with Eshtehard as its capital and only city at the time.[3]

At the latest census in 2016, the population of Palangabad was 1,012 in 306 households. It was the most populous village in its rural district.[6]

After the census, the village was elevated to the status of a city.[7]
