Shahiduzzaman Sarker is a Bangladesh Awami League politician and the incumbent Jatiya Sangsad member representing Naogaon-2 constituency. He is currently the Minister of State for Ministry of Planning. Sarkar previously served as the Whip of Treasury Bench of the Parliament of Bangladesh.[1] On 1 May 2020, he became the first member of the Bangladesh Parliament to test positive for COVID-19.[2]

Early life

Sarkar was born on 13 December 1955.[3]

Career

Sarker was elected to the parliament from Naogaon-2 in 1991 as a candidate of Bangladesh Awami League.[4] He was elected again in 2008[5] He was elected unopposed in 2014 after the main opposition, Bangladesh Nationalist Party, boycotted the election.[6] He was made a Parliamentary whip on 25 January 2014.[7]
