Career

Having embarked on his musical journey from an early age, Suresh Peters has a rich history in the world of music. He began performing on stages during his school and college days. His proficiency led to numerous accolades even in his school years.[citation needed]

His early popularity as a musician prompted him to pursue a professional path in the music industry at a relatively young age. Following his college education, he briefly explored the film advertising domain, particularly in the film department. However, his true passion lay in music, which eventually led him to transition into a full-time music career.

Throughout this period, he actively participated in sessions and live shows alongside established musicians. He notably contributed as a member of the successful rock band "Nemesis Avenue." It was during this time that Suresh Peters had the opportunity to collaborate with the renowned A.R. Rahman, even before Rahman's rise to fame as a prolific music director in India.

The pivotal point came when A.R. Rahman initiated his first film project, "Roja," and Suresh Peters joined him as a dedicated assistant. Rahman, well-acquainted with Peters since their early college days, recognized Peters' multifaceted talents, including singing. During the composition of the film "Gentleman," Rahman offered Peters his first chance as a playback singer, featuring him in the popular song "Chikku Bukku Railae." The song's enormous success catapulted Suresh Peters into the limelight, opening doors for him to sing in multiple languages for Indian feature films.

Peters and Rahman went on to collaborate on a series of hit songs that are now considered classics. Tracks like "Urvasi Urvasi," "Pettai Rap," "Chandralekha," "Oru Koodai Sunlight," and "Super Police" became iconic hits that remain beloved by audiences to this day. As his fame as a singer grew, Suresh Peters embarked on his journey as a composer. His first major venture was an independent Tamil music album titled "Minnal," a pioneering effort during that era. The album achieved extraordinary success, selling over a million copies in a remarkably short span.[citation needed]

This marked a shift in Peters' career, transitioning him from a playback singer to a composer. His debut as a music director for a Tamil feature film, "Coolie," further solidified his position in the industry. Subsequently, he ventured into the Malayalam film industry with "Punjabi House" in 1998, marking another milestone in his career. His compositions for this film struck a chord with audiences, leading to a string of successful films and establishing his music as a cultural phenomenon.[citation needed]

In the Malayalam film industry, Peters' music stood out for its uniqueness and widespread appeal.[citation needed] He collaborated with esteemed directors and actors, as well as renowned musicians from various regions of India. Peters' popularity extended to five Indian languages—Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Tamil. His singing and music direction prowess earned him recognition and opportunities to work with top composers and directors across languages.

In addition to his singing and music direction ventures, Suresh Peters maintained a consistent presence in the advertising sector. He has spent nearly three decades crafting jingles for an array of international and Indian brands, including Coke, Pepsi, Lakmé, Hindustan Lever, and Ford Motors.

Furthermore, Peters has solidified his identity as an independent music artist through successful Tamil albums, including "Minnal," "Oviyum," "Yengirindho," and "Kaathirupen." These albums enabled him to explore diverse musical genres and gain appreciation from global audiences. Peters remains a drummer, contributing to sessions and live performances for esteemed musicians, including L. Subramaniam, Vikku Vinayakram, M. Balamuralikrishna, A.R. Rahman, and his own band.
