Wayne Township is one of nine townships in DuPage County, Illinois, USA. As of the 2020 census, its population was 64,427 and it contained 21,788 housing units.[2]

According to the 2021 census gazetteer files, Wayne Township has a total area of 36.43 square miles (94.35 km2), of which 35.41 square miles (91.71 km2) (or 97.19%) is land and 1.02 square miles (2.64 km2) (or 2.81%) is water.[3]

Demographics

As of the 2020 census[2] there were 64,427 people, 21,808 households, and 17,925 families residing in the township. The population density was 1,768.56 inhabitants per square mile (682.84/km2). There were 21,788 housing units at an average density of 598.09 per square mile (230.92/km2). The racial makeup of the township was 63.31% White, 3.05% African American, 0.46% Native American, 18.25% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 6.42% from other races, and 8.48% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 14.75% of the population.

There were 21,808 households, out of which 37.50% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 69.26% were married couples living together, 10.05% had a female householder with no spouse present, and 17.81% were non-families. 14.20% of all households were made up of individuals, and 5.30% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.02 and the average family size was 3.36.

The township's age distribution consisted of 22.7% under the age of 18, 9.1% from 18 to 24, 24.5% from 25 to 44, 31.5% from 45 to 64, and 12.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40.1 years. For every 100 females, there were 98.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.9 males.

The median income for a household in the township was $110,491, and the median income for a family was $120,405. Males had a median income of $63,178 versus $39,656 for females. The per capita income for the township was $40,899. About 3.6% of families and 4.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 5.3% of those under age 18 and 4.4% of those age 65 or over.

Township government

The Township government consists of a Board of Trustees (Supervisor and four Trustees) and two officers (Clerk and Assessor) all elected to four-year terms by the voters at-large.

Township roadways are under the jurisdiction of the Wayne Township Road District, a special taxing district separate from the Township. The Highway Commissioner serves as chief executive of the Road District and is elected to a four-year term by the voters at-large.
