Sri Lankan cricket team in New Zealand in 2022–23

International cricket tour

The Sri Lanka men's cricket team toured New Zealand in March and April 2023 to play two Test, three One Day International (ODI) and three Twenty20 International (T20I) matches.^[1] The Test matches formed part of the 2021–2023 ICC World Test Championship and the ODI series formed part of the inaugural 2020–2023 ICC Cricket World Cup Super League.^[2]^[3]

New Zealand won the Test series 2–0.^[4] New Zealand won the ODI series by the same margin,^[5] with the second game being abandoned due to rain.^[6]

The first T20I ended in a tie,^[7] with Sri Lanka winning the match in the super over.^[8] New Zealand won the second T20I by 9 wickets,^[9] and levelled the series 1–1.^[10] New Zealand went on to win the third T20I by 4 wickets,^[11]^[12] and take the series 2–1.^[13]^[14]

On 12 March 2023, Doug Bracewell was added to the New Zealand's squad for the second Test.^[21] On the same day, New Zealand's Neil Wagner was ruled out of second Test due to an injury.^[22]

Finn Allen, Lockie Ferguson and Glenn Phillips were selected in the New Zealand's ODI squad only for the first ODI,^[23] while Mark Chapman, Ben Lister and Henry Nicholls only for the last two ODIs.^[24] On 18 March 2023, Rachin Ravindra replaced Michael Bracewell,^[25] who was released from the New Zealand's ODI squad to join Royal Challengers Bangalore for the 2023 Indian Premier League.^[26] On 23 March 2023, New Zealand's Lockie Ferguson was ruled out of the first ODI due to hamstring injury,^[27] with Lister named as his replacement.^[28]

Angelo Mathews became the third cricketer from Sri Lanka to score 7,000 runs in Tests.^[29]
Dinesh Chandimal became the eleventh cricketer from Sri Lanka to score 5,000 runs in Tests.^[30]
As a result of this match, India qualified for the 2021–2023 ICC World Test Championship Final, while Sri Lanka were eliminated.^[31]

The final day of the match started with New Zealand on 28/1, needing a total of 285 runs to win. The play of the day was reduced to 53 overs because of rain. In a dramatic finish, New Zealand tied the score with two balls remaining, and scored the winning run by running a bye on the final ball.^[32]
