From the full description: The battery, the source of energy, is shown in the sketch as the public, whose investors furnish the capital for the electric industry. This capital the manufacturer converts into generating and distributing equipment for the central station, or into appliances and supplies to be sold through the jobber (wholesaler) to the retailer. The G in the middle stands for the Galvanometer or balanced circuit.
