Description
English: 1959 DB HBR4 seen at the Musée Matra. DB chassis no 1110 was originally equipped with a 750cc engine, replaced by an 848cc version before Le Mans 1961. This engine has 60PS and the car weighed 559kg in Le Mans racing condition. "Le Monstre" belonged to Jacques Rey, who raced it at the 1959 Tour de France Automobile together with André Guilhaudin, where they won the Index of Performance. Guilhaudin was the one who designed the modified body, lowered by 12cm, which increased its top speed by 11km/h. The front window was the rear unit from a Panhard Dyna Z1. The top speed with Le Mans gearing was 190km/h. It also partook in the 1961 Le Mans 24 Hours (carrying no 48), where it finished second in the Index of Energy Efficiency and 20th overall, with Guilhaudin and Jean-François Jaeger at the wheel. It managed an average speed of 136.203km/h, with an average consumption of 10.52 l/100km.
