The first generation Cougar was built from 1967-70 and was built on the Mustang platform, (Later it was built on the Torino and Thunderbird platforms). but it was 3 inches longer than the Mustang and more luxurious. It got a full-width divided grille with hidden headlamps and vertical bars. Available only as a Coupe in 67-68. Base Cougar or XR7 (which got woodgrain dash and steering wheel). Engines; 289 or 390 in 1967 and 302 and 428 in 1968 (The GT came standard with the big block) |
