This is the 1st Australian Torana, the HB, built from 1967-69, it was really a facelifted Vauxhall Viva. It featured a two-door body, 12 inch wheels and a 56 bhp 1.2-litre four-cylinder engine mated to a four-speed gearbox. A 69hp Series 70 engine option was also available. also a sports model called the Brabham Torana, named in honour of the well-respected Australian race-car driver, Sir Jack Brabham, it got twin Strombergs, 79hp and different badging and black body accents. In 1969, the HB Series II featured locally made body panels, replacing the imported bodies of the original HB. The model line up now included a 4 door sedan which was developed in Australia, some were actually sent back to England and sold as a 4 door Viva. |
