Summary
| Description | 330-PS-683 (USN 707952): Navy Orders Training Helicopters. The Bureau of Aeronautics, Department of the Navy, announced the awarding of a contract for the purchase of an initial quantity of Hiller 360 Helicopters, designated THE-1. They will be used by the Navy for training purposes. The Navy’s THE-1, constructed by Hiller Helicopters of Palo Alto, California, is a modified version of the standard Hiller production model with specified Navy appointments. It is equipped with “rotormatic” control. The helicopters will carry three passengers at a gross weight of approximately 2,400 pounds and will develop approximately 178 hp.
