English: Acanthacris ruficornis , mature female eating a leaf. One ocellus is visible next to the left eye.

Somerset West South Africa. The species is regarded as intermittently being a mild pest in gardens. The insect prefers to flee if approached, but the spikes on the hind tibiae are as sharp as they look, and they can administer a dauntingly painful kick.
