Description AerodramusFuciphagus.LipKee.jpg |
Edible nest swiftlet Aerodramus fuciphagus They are difficult to identify, the only visible feature here is that the tail is notched. The rump is a paler grey but I was unable to get a good dorsal shot. This was found near a 4 storey building with no windows, only air inlets and a large entrance on the top floor. It was a purpose built aviary to attract these swiflets to nest, giving the owners a regular supply of edible birds nests - this practice is termed ranching . GAHP.pdf www.jphpk.gov.my/swiftlets%20GAHP.pdf The nests are harvested (in a sustainable manner?) for birds' nest soup an Eastern delicacy en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bird's nest soup Location: Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, Indonesia July 29, 2008 690V8897 |
