Summary

Description
English: The genus Amorphophallus extends across Africa, Asia and Australia, as well as various islands. From an underground tuber they produce a leaf and an inflorescence. The inflorescence has both male and female flowers on the lower part of the inflorescence, the latter only receptive to pollen on the day of flowering. To attract flies and other carrion eaters, Amorphophallus dracontioides emits an odor "reminiscent of carcass and dung rot". Despite what has just been said the plant can be "eaten after being cut up, washed several times and boiled for one or two days" and is considered a famine food.
