Summary
Description Ampress Camp by Thomas Wright 1744.png |
English:
Depiction of the earthwork fort known as
Ampress Camp
by Thomas Wright in a notice entitled
A Letter from Mr. Tho. Wright to James Theobald, Esq; F. R. S. concerning Two ancient Camps in Hampshire.
Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society, Volume 43, 1744. Ampress Camp lies close to
Buckland Rings
in
Lymington
in Hampshire, England. This picture is orientated with west at the top. The outer ramparts of this fort have been flattened since 1744 although the interior remains as a field. The date of the fort is uncertain, but the best guess is that it dates from the Iron Age.
