The people of eachcolony, therefore, brought to a greater or less degree theideals of the country from which they came. It may fairlybe said that the Dutch ideal was for universal education andthat the people who ruled Massachusetts were at the outsetchiefly concerned in educating people for the professions,more especially for the ministry.
