Description
English: According to Repin, his "Protodeacon" depicts "...the extract of our deacons, these lions of the clergy, who do not rely on any note - all of him is flesh and blood, looping, yawning and roar, the roar is meaningless, but solemn and strong, as the rite itself in It seems to me that our deacon has the only echo of a pagan priest, Slavic also and I have always seen it in my kind deacon - as the most typical, most terrible of all deacons. Sensuality and artistry of your business, nothing else!" The prototype was the Chuguev Protodeacon Ivan Ulanov. (I.N. Kramskoy. Correspondence, v. 2, p. 360.)
