Die Kirche wurde erhöht über dem Ort auf einer zur Donau steil abfallenden Terrasse errichtet und ist vom Friedhof und einer Umfassungsmauer aus Bruchsteinen umgeben. Das Langhaus ist eine romanische, dreischiffige und sechsjochige Pfeilerbasilika. Der vorgestellte hochgotische Turm im Westen stammt aus dem 3. Viertel des 14. Jahrhunderts. Der erhöhte, zweijochige gotische Chor wurde vermutlich vom Baumeister Michael Knab Ende des 14. Jahrhunderts errichtet. Insgesamt ist das Bauwerk ein bedeutendes Denkmal mittelalterlicher Architektur in Österreich. |
