Global boundary Stratotype Section and Point (GSSP) of the Ladinian stage (upper Middle Triassic), steeply tilted deeper marine limestones of the lower Buchenstein beds, exposed at the Ponte di Romanterra, south of Bagolino, Eastern Lombardy, Italian Alps. For clarity the boundary is highlighted in the image by a dashed line (after Brack et al., 2005

). The beds become successively younger from the upper left to the lower right. The inset in the lower right is a close up of the boundary interval, showing the “Golden Spike”.

Grenzstratotypus (GSSP) des Ladiniums (obere Mittel-Trias), steilgestellte tiefermarine Kalksteine der unteren Buchensteiner Schichten, aufgeschlossen südlich von Bagolino am Ponte di Romanterra, östliche Lombardei, italienische Alpen. Die Grenze ist zur besseren Erkennbarkeit in der Aufnahme mit einer gestrichelten Linie markiert (nach Brack et al., 2005

). Die Schichten werden von links oben nach rechts unten jünger. Rechts unten eine Nahaufnahme des Grenzintervalls mit dem „Goldenen Nagel“.
