English: 16th-century fresco by Baldassarre Croce in Sala Regia of the Palazzo dei Priori, Viterbo depicting Emperor Michael VIII Palaiologos, who was said to have had Italian ancestry. Its Latin inscription reads: "Michael Paleologvs Viterbiensis Hvivs Familiæ Primus Constantinopolis Imperator 1260" ("Michael Palaiologos of Viterbo, of this family the first Emperor of Constantinople, 1260").
