1707
), les tropes filipistes van vèncer les de l'Arxiduc i això precipità el signe de la
guerra
: cremaren i destruïren Xàtiva, a la qual canviaren el nom pel de San Felipe, i convertiren els seus habitants en socarrats (apel·latiu popular que vol dir 'cremats'). Així el regne d'Aragó i el Regne de València van ser annexionats en força a la causa Borbonica, la resta d´Aragó, encara a favor de l'Arxiduc, resistirâ mes temps gracies a una flota angloholandesa de bloqueig.
