Bodhisattva,_Kamakura_period.jpg

Summary

Description A Japanese wooden bodhisattva statue with lacquer, gold, copper, and crystal, made by Kaikei (fl. 1185–1220 AD) during the early Kamakura period (early 13th century). The signature of the master sculptor Kaikei is found on the cavity of this statue. As seen in this statue and others, glass or rock crystal were used in this period to emphasize the eyes in a realistic fashion.
