Summary
Description Bromyard Heritage Centre - Resting Sheep (36385692190).jpg |
A look around the market town of Bromyard in Herefordshire.
The sculpture depicts a sheep lying down as if resting. The sculptor chose this design because she wanted to produce a form that everyone was familiar with. Also, she felt that the rounded form of the sheep reflected the rolling landscape of Herefordshire and that it would therefore look at home in Bromyard. Placed at waist height, the sheep is readily approachable, and its rotund tactile qualities will encourage people to touch it, as indeed the artist intended. Over time, stroking the sheep will affect the patination and the natural colour of the bronze will begin to show through. This work was one of three specially commissioned for a millenial project that asked artists to explore Bromyard's unique historical links and its agricultural heritage. It was part of the town's planned enhancement scheme funded by a number of local, regional and European grants.Unveiled in 2000. |
