Zentralbild Schaar 27.9.69-B-Halle-Eine Stadtschnellbahn nahm Betrieb auf - Ein Zug der neuen Stadtschnellbahn von Halle ist in die Station Wohnstadt-Nord eingefahren. Nach nur sechsmonatiger Bauzeit hatte die S-Bahn am Morgen des 27.9.69 ihren Betrieb aufgenommen. Sie verkehrt 34 mal täglich zwischen dem Hauptbahnhof und dem Norden der Stadt. Dadurch verkürzt sich die Fahrzeit für Tausende Werktätige um mehr als die Hälfte.

Zug der S-Bahn Halle (S) am Hp Wohnstadt Nord bei der Fahrt von Trotha nach Dölau. Der mit einer Lokomotive der Reihe 118.0-1 bespannte Zug ist aus belgischen Wagen des Typs
M1
gebildet, die als Folge des
zweiten Weltkrieges
im mitteldeutschen Raum verblieben und von der DR um 1960 modernisiert worden waren. Zum Aufnahmezeitpunkt war der S-Bahn-Streckenabschnitt Halle (S) Hbf–Halle-Trotha noch nicht elektrifiziert.
