Repronegatief. Bagan-siapiapi (ook wel geschreven als Bagan Si Api Api), aan de mond van de rivier de Rokan, het belangrijkste centrum voor visserij op Sumatra, werd bijna uitsluitend door Chinezen bewoond, onder wie veel nieuwkomers. De onderafdeling en de gelijknamige hoofdplaats ontwikkelden zich snel rond 1900 dankzij de rijkdom aan vis en garnalen van de zee rond die streek, Straat Malakka. Een groot deel van de vangst werd in de vorm van gedroogde vis en trasi (terasi, een sterk ruikend bestanddeel van diverse Indische levensmiddelen) naar Singapore en Batavia verscheept. (P.
