Summary
Description Calvary Church Renwick Gem.jpg | The parish of Calvary Church was founded in 1832 and used a wood-framed church in uptown Manhattan on Fourth Avenue (which later became Park Avenue) for its services. In 1842, that building was moved to the current site, at 273 Park Avenue South on the corner of East 21st Street, and in 1848, the parish's current sanctuary, designed by James, Renwick, Jr., was completed. This building, which sits to the north of the church, was designed by Renwick to be a theatre for the church, and was used as that for a short while. It is nicknamed the "Renwick Gem".
