Summary
Description Cartier Field in 1920.png |
English:
This is an incredible aerial view of Cartier Athletic Field, the playing field used by the University of Notre Dame's football teams from 1899 to 1928. Found in the University's yearbook in 1920, the photograph is exceptionally rare, with very few pictures of the full stadium ever captured. The exact game that is taking place in the picture is unclear, although based on the sellout crowd and historic attendance records, it may have been against Purdue on November 6th with an attendance of 12,000. The other three home games during the 1920 season were against Kalamazoo, Western Michigan, and Valparaiso, with crowds of 5,000, 3,500, and 8,000 respectively.
