• The photograph is credited to the Associated Press. It is a wire photo, which the Associated Press distributed copies of to its member newspapers.
• The 1909 Copyright Act, which was law until 1977, stated that any item had to be published with the copyright symbol ©, the word "Copyright", or the abbreviation "Copr."
• This photograph was clearly not sent with such a notice (see the full image and the back of the photo below, under "file history").
