Summary

Description
English: The Charles Lang Freer House is listed on both the National Register of Historic Places and is a Michigan Historic Site. Built in 1890, it was first built for Charles Lang Freer who was a successful industrialist and art collector. This is one of the most important historical buildings in the state of Michigan. It was Freer's vast collection of art which started the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC. When Freer passed away in 1919, the estate of Lizzy Merrill-Palmer bought the property. It was then used as a school exclusively used for parenting, child and family development. One of the first such schools in the United States. In 1981, this institution became part of Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. It is still in use today. Photo taken from East Ferry Avenue, Detroit, Michigan.
