Summary
Description Cloudina fossils (Neoproterozoic; Corumba, Brazil) (45453979394).jpg |
Cloudina fossils from the Precambrian of Brazil. Cloudina is famous for being one of only a few, very early fossil organisms that had a mineralized shell. It only occurs in ~uppermost Precambrian rocks (about 550 million years old), sometimes in high abundances. In the rock shown here, the dark gray, tubular structures are the Cloudina specimens. Cloudina shells consisted of a series of nested cones (<a href=" http://palaeos.com/proterozoic/neoproterozoic/ediacaran/images/Cloudina.jpg " rel="noreferrer nofollow">palaeos.com/proterozoic/neoproterozoic/ediacaran/images/C...</a>). Preserved soft parts are unknown. Classification: Animalia, Incertae Sedis Stratigraphy: unspecified Neoproterozoic-aged unit Locality: unspecified site near Corumba, southern Brazil See info. at: <a href=" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloudinidae " rel="noreferrer nofollow">en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloudinidae</a> |
